hi! i would like to use a rotary switch and various capacitors (instead of diodes)for a varitone in my guitar. i don't know much about wiring, but it seems to me that i should connect the groung to my jack-sleeve, and the wire from "A" to the volume pot? if so, in which lug should i connect it to? the one form the pick-up( & selector) or the one to the tip of the jack?
Hi George, What I would do --- is wire the varitone switch (into) the tone pot ; the way it would normally be wired. For example, in a strat - the tone capacitor is wired from ground (top of pot) to one of the lugs. Wire your varitone switch this way, and you shouldn't have any problems - and will be able to still use your tone controls as well.
hi Kyle, this is what i came up with the rotaty mod-> 4 clipping options with 5 diodes used. thanks again! http://iconpoetry.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Rotary-switch_3p4p_clipping.png
You don't need to use a 3p2t for transistor swapping.
ReplyDeleteYou can just leave the Emitters of both connected in common and save a few bucks.
You are 100% correct, I often use the cheaper switches.
